West Side Toury (Las Cruces, NM - 04/25/10)
Hello and welcome to the desert. It’s freaking hot down here but it’s a dry wonderful amazing type of hot. We left Lubbock, TX around 11am after a party that allowed for no sleep and drove 8 hours to get to Las Cruces, NM. Correction, Tom drove 8 hours. He seemed to really enjoy it as the rest of us slept on and off, read books, etc.
We made two stops on our way. One of them was Roswell, NM. There really isn’t much for me to say other than I guess that’s what I expected… alien shit. Got the post card and the neon green gift bag, get me outta here. The other stop was actually amazing. It was a place called White Sands. Tom told us to prepare for the stop pre-tour because it looked like something that was really sweet for us to do. White Sands is a state park in New Mexico. It is a beautiful and massive expanse of the whitest sand you’ve ever seen. It was to be $3 per car passenger but we found on arriving at the gate that it was the last day of national park week we didn’t have to pay… $3 is a lot right now when all you get for food per day is $5. So we drove into this expanse of white sand dunes and when we had gone far enough, we parked and started walking. The pictures in the blog say it all. The sand felt like you were walking on silk. We goofed off for about an hour, climbing the dunes, jumping off the dunes, wrestling on the dunes, flashing each other on the dunes… all that good stuff.
After we left we drove for another 45 minutes to Equinox in Las Cruces and played to about ten people, making about $25… bummer. It was cool that people had even heard of us down there though, I was excited about that. The owner of Equinox let both bands stay at the venue over night… so we rolled out our mats, brushed our dirty sand teeth and went to bed… smelly, sweaty and dying for a shower.
