West Side Toury (Lubbock, TX - 04/24/10)
Slept like a medium sized baby last night thanks to Emily and Shea opening up their medium sized dorm room to us. Starving, as usual, Emily and Shea underwent much adversity to smuggle us into the college cafeteria. Andrew got in by using the student ID one of Emily’s male friends. The rest of us aligned ourselves with an elevator scheme that put us in the backside of the cafeteria. Once inside, we acted like every other student in there… we ate food. However, there was a fire in our eyes at the sight of all the culinary options that made the fact that we did not belong there very evident. We ate to our hearts content, feeling very crafty having pulled off that little scheme.
After food, we started on our way to Lubbock, TX to play a house party. It was a monster drive but the scenery offered some relief from that. It was very cool to watch the shrubbery change and see the highway touch the low flying cumulus clouds… it was beautiful watching the sunset as we drove. After making it to the house we were to play that night, we unloaded our gear, set up, sound checked and went to Taco Bell for dinner. We started playing at 11:30 to a handful of people that slowly grew into a decent crowd. I was obnoxious and rude on “stage” but people didn’t seem to care and neither did I… I was having fun. As we were loading out I noticed a lot of people grabbing on my shoulders, arms and elsewhere. Apparently ecstasy is a popular drug in Lubbock Texas.
Fun Facts: Lubbock, TX is the home of Buddy Holly, is the most conservative city in TX, and ranks in as one of the most STD riddled cities in the United States. Fun Facts…
The party raged on as the next band set up and played a few songs, only to be broken up by a single cop with an awful attitude. The party kept going strong after the breakup, but The Winter Sounds couldn’t play unfortunately. We sold some merch, surprisingly, and then Tom and I went to bed in the van as the party raged on until 7 or 8 this morning.
Truly… sex, drugs and rock and roll.
