West Side Toury (Ft. Worth - 04/23/10)
We headed to Ft. Worth from Austin after an amazing pizza breakfast/lunch downtown. This was all after saying goodbye to Brittany and Ross. Mr. Ross was looking more and more homeless at the days went on. When we left him he was wearing an over sized polo shirt and high-water corduroys, carting around a roller bag and some food wrapped in Kroger bags. I was honestly worried if he would ever make out of Austin, especially as he headed up to where all the other homeless people were lounging. Either way, safe travels man and thanks for the note you left us.
On our way to The Moon Bar in Ft. Worth we worked relentlessly on bgv’s for a new song that we’re playing. I was not very excited to start playing this new song live but the other guys convinced me that it would come to life over the next few months on the road, much like Drop Me A Line did. So as I said, we worked our asses off on these bgv’s (laugh it up mary) and they turned out great. The song is now something of a monster what with everything we have to remember as we play through it. Regardless, our first run through of the new and improved song went over well. We started off playing for three super fans; China, Emily and Shea. Then, to our surprise, everyone from outside trickled in to listen. This happened the other night in Austin too. I think the new songs make people scratch their heads and get curious enough to come listen… whatever it is, I like it.
After selling some merch Tom, Ben and Andrew went to Taco Bell before they closed. I stayed back and watched the merch table. Our super fans invited me to eat with them next door at Fuzzys (p.s. - when I say super fan I mean it in the most endearing way… they are amazing and make doing this worthwhile). I headed over there knowing I couldn’t afford anything but they were kind enough to give me their leftovers… Sweet ladies, really. I picture messaged Tom, showing him that I was tearing up some free food and the next thing I know, in walks Ben and Tom with shit eating grins on their faces ready to devour. They tore up some chips and I think Tom got a decent meal in addition.
After the night was through and we got paid, we headed to their dorm where we would somehow squeeze Andrew’s air mattress into a room and make due. After experiencing Chat Roulette for the first time, I went to bed disgusted.
