PARACHUTE MUSICAL

West Side Toury (Day off - 04/19/10)

With four people in a van, an eight-hour drive is bearable. With five, it’s worse than a root canal. We’re jammed in this van. It was a super boring drive that we’ve made many times now. We had the day off after our first show in Memphis (bummer). Since we are to meet in San Antonio, TX with our tour mates, The Winter Sounds, on Tuesday we need to break up the drive. To do so, we made our way to Denton, TX and stay with the Oso Closo guys. That band is no more, but four of the five guys in Oso have started a new project called Foe Destroyer. We actually walked in on their band practice and heard some of the new songs. So we start on our way to Denton after visiting Beale Street for our 5th cargo member, Ross. He had never been and asked if we had time to stop there. So we decided to torture ourselves with the sweet smell of Memphis Barbecue, something we had no money for. I dislike Beale in general. It makes me cringe. One of the most debauched memories I have are thanks to Beale… sex drugs and ribs. Nuff’ said. Went into some record shops, perused the Elvis post cards, talked to a seedy old man about marijuana vaporizers. “No better way to sell pot paraphernalia to a pot head than to tell him that he can smoke in a movie theater,” said Andrew, “the man had his sales pitch down”. We walked back to the van and started on what would be, as I mentioned previously, the most boring eight-hour drive I have ever been on. There was nothing fulfilling to do, no book was interesting enough, no song went unheard, the drive itself was sightless… being cramped shouldn’t be quite this uninteresting.
