Stuanton, VA (03/02/10)
After waking up in a GREAT hotel having had a TERRIBLE night’s sleep, we made our way to Stuanton, VA. The drive was my favorite of tour. There was rarely a highway, another car, buildings etc. We were up and over mountains, catching glimpses of the huge snowstorm’s aftermath, little rodents running around. It was great. Arriving in Stuanton was no disappointment. It is a small but beautiful town that was elevated and has charming architecture. We played at the Darjeeling Café, a VERY small but quaint venue/tea house/restaurant/wine bar. I was nervous at first but it turned out to be one of my favorite shows of tour. Before we set up we were trying out all the different teas, one being Yerba Mate. I’ve seen people drinking this tea my whole life (out of gourds using silver straws) but never knew what it was. It’s better than coffee. In fact, I gave up coffee after feeling it’s effects. It’s actually a bush and is a stimulant that gives you a very awake feeling but doesn’t crash like coffee. I loved it, I bought it, I’ll drink it until I find something better. So we set up in this little place but my keyboard wouldn’t turn on. Luckily I had another adapter and that when I plugged it in all was good… then the P.A. broke. Somehow it started working again even though mid-song I had to grab the mic from Andrew because mine went out. He had to share a mic with Tom for the rest of the night. The last band played a great set as the P.A. began to smoke. It was nice to see so many people there for us having only played in Stuanton once before. After the show we headed to DC to stay with family so we could break up the drive to Philly. Andrew came up with a song about Anal Fissures… the rest is history.
