PARACHUTE MUSICAL

Single Release Tour - Austin, TX (Day 8)

It’s day nine of our tour with Sequoyah Prep School and our third Texas date. Things couldn’t be going better… well they could, but as far as things on our level go, shit’s pretty amazing.

Our last Austin show was a year ago, the panic attack episode. I’m pretty sure we mentioned it in the blog the day after it happened but if not, here’s the back-story. So I can’t stand when people ask me for money, because I DON’T FREEKING HAVE ANY! Austin is an awesome town, a blue dot in a red state if you will… Very freethinking, very music oriented, very cool. The only downside is the crazy amount of homeless people surrounding the clubs. Now don’t get my wrong, I couldn’t sympathize more with their situation… it would really suck to have to beg your way through the day, everyday. But enough with the explanation, the basics of this story are this: I can only turn down so many homeless people before I loose it, I have a short temper to my own demise and I’m working my ASS off trying to make my future in music great so as a result I haven’t a dollar to my name. After the 9th or 10th person asked me for money I lost it and just broke down. I panicked… it was my first and last panic attack and before it I didn’t believe they were real. Well, they are real and they are brutal. Needless to say, driving into Austin produced an unsettling feeling inside of me.

Seeking the safe haven of a venue was a lost cause. Emo’s was incredible but it was a true shit hole. Where there should have been urinals there were troths that pigs wouldn’t look at, the ceiling leaked into large trashcans precariously placed throughout the venue, “back stage” didn’t exist and the employees were intense. Regardless, the show was a blowout. Cruiser Weight kicked ass, Nashville’s Black List Royals were a nice surprise add to the show and Wicked Celtics were hilarious and held nothing back. We were well compensated by the headliner, people bought merch and the money worries that scurried through our brains pre-tour became fleeting thoughts.

Stella from Cruiser Weight and Adam of Wicked Celtics have a house that they kindly invited us back to. Stella even bought a HUGE pizza for us! It was instantly devoured. Adam is an old friend of ours and an old band mate of Andrew’s. They played in Mondo Primo (formerly Feeble Weiner) together. Never in my life have I met someone as pumped about the possibilities that life has to offer as Adam. This guy has the spirit of a kid and the tenacity of a pride of lions… I am positive that he will be the richest dude I know one day soon. We didn’t leave a thank you note but one is on the way… Thank you both.

Josh

p.s. - After hanging out with Adam I’m stealing the phrase “Rock Talk Head Lock”… (when a dude that was in, or is in, a band wants to talk your head off about music shit and won’t let you leave).
