PARACHUTE MUSICAL

Single Release Tour - Denton, TX (Day 7)

Howdy ya’ll! This is bombastic Ben, writing from the 2nd bench seat of Patrick, our faithful van, splaining’ to ya about our life on the road!

Morning was pleasantly long, as it was one of the few mornings we got to sleep well into the afternoon. We stayed with Danny of Oso Closo at his Dad’s house, which was cool because everyone kinda camped out in the living room. It’s common for our hosts to retreat to their room once we are tucked in, but what made this special is that Danny has his own house but choose to camp out with us there, so it was even more slumber party-esque than usual. I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up feeling refreshed as I had gotten sick the night before. Too many times turning around in the van looking for Danny’s place caused me to make a contribution to a neighbor’s lawn. Sorry neighbor, I hope the grass doesn’t die; and no Mom, this is not a common occurrence, only happens about once every 5 tours or more.

Anyhow, thanks to sleeping in, all four of us were starving once we left Danny’s Dad’s place. Somehow some combination of us had managed to eat Tex-Mex all previous days of tour, so we were craving change. Cheap Chinese buffet is what we sought, but alas none came up in our GPS, so we hit the road to Denton thinking we’d find one on the way. Still none were found, no buffet for us. We are however not a foursome who gives up easily. Once in Denton we started calling Oso Closo members in search of our cheap Asian eats. The GPS and an Oso member agreed, just a few miles away there was the lunch we sought. Unfortunately, an hour had managed to pass during our search and our hunger was growing, people were getting week and light headed.

We arrived!!!!! It turned out not to be a buffet at all, but a Korean/Sushi restaurant. As soon as we walked in we all knew that it was out of our price range, but hunger had taken its toll. Like lemmings we allowed the waiter to seat us and tells us about the specials. While fetching our water we decided that we just couldn’t afford to stay, so Josh had to tell the poor guy we were moving on. I believe he was pouring out our waters as we walked out the door.

The food we settled on was uneventful… Whataburger for Josh and Andrew while Tom and I ate Taco Bell. Somehow the day was almost spent so we moved towards the club. With just 90 minutes to kill, we hung with Sequoyah at a chill coffee house in downtown Denton, followed by load in and more time killing. The club was steadily filling, and by the time it was our turn to play the house was pretty darn full. It can be a little intimidating playing in a town composed of music school students, but we face similar odds in Nashville so we got over it pretty quick. The crowd was very responsive and it turned out to be one of our best shows of tour thus far. I personally had a blast playing on Ryan Jacobi’s drum set, as it featured an additional floor tom and was made of clear plastic (70’s Ludwig Vistalites). Ryan Jacobi btw is a consummate bad ass on drums and has gotten even better since we last played with Oso Closo over a year ago. The whole band in fact was slaying and Josh, Tom and Andrew joined them on stage during their cover of Message In A Bottle.

I’m not knocking any of the other towns we frequent, but everyone in Denton is so friendly and pleasant. The post show conversations were more enjoyable for me than usual, and people we very generous with their praise. The night ended with everyone feeling successful and pumped about the good show we just shared. The only thing left to do was hang out back at Danny’s before catching a few Zzzzzs. Thanks Denton!
