Philadelphia, PA - 09/14/09
Today was not my favorite day of tour ever. It’s been awhile since we’ve paid to play a show. Playing up north is difficult with all the tolls and gas being so much more expensive. It cost us $80 just to get to Philadelphia. We sold a CD and a t-shirt… a whopping $25 bucks. I don’t want this to come across the wrong way, we appreciate the sale a great deal, but it was a Monday night and there just weren’t that many people there. So in the end, after the club took their $200 production fee, there wasn’t anything left over for anyone… tough shit but that happens every once and awhile I guess. We woke up this morning to the sound of trains rolling past, the same train we somehow fell asleep / passed out to. It’s an odd thing, but I feel more at ease when it’s noisy… even if it is a 100 ton train barreling down the track about 20 feet outside of the window. We ate at a vegan restaurant called Foodswings in Brooklyn today before heading to PA. I’ve had my fair share of faux meat before but this was a totally new experience. I ate every last bite and immediately fell into a food coma. I slept the entire way to Philly and then realized that my bowels weren’t quite right once we arrived. We were all set up to play and then unexpectedly (for me), Ben started in with the intro to our set. I didn’t think we were going to start but figured I’d just go for it even though I had to shit VERY badly. Well, my pipe dream of working through it fell though. Fifteen seconds of the song went by before I stopped, acting surprised that we were starting (even though I had just introduced the band). I hopped of stage to have what would be a very fast act on the toilet. I headed back to the stage uncomfortable but semi-ready to play a set. Halfway through I thought I was going to loose it and would have to cut short… but somehow, someway, I managed to fight through the AWEFUL monitor mix and twisting stomach. I BOLTED to the bathroom directly after our set. Feeling much better I shared some nachos with the bar tender and on the way home ate some Chinese… another risk in and of itself. How quickly we forget.
