Day 10 - Macon, GA PM / Winter Sounds Tour
The last time we “spoke” I mentioned that Tom was driving Patrick (our van) like a Honda Civic. Well, he was driving that way into the motel we would stay in for about 3 hours. After the show in Tampa we started the seven-hour drive to Macon, GA. A buddy of ours from Atlanta has a close friend with Lou Gehrig’s disease and is in his final days. Our friend asked us if we would be interested in playing in their backyard for the party they were throwing him. We thought it was a great idea and told him we would love to do it (thus, the drive from Tampa starting at 3 am). We arrived at the above mention shoddy motel at 6 am. Rooms cost $35 with an attached $10 key deposit that we would “get back in the morning”. Experience has told us that “refundable” money given to someone behind bulletproof glass at a shitty motel always seems to get lost or “never received”. Needless to say, I didn’t give him the deposit and he didn’t give me the key. He walked us to our room, opened the door and let us in… not leaving a key. We slept for three hours then drove the rest of the way to Beautiful Butts County. This is not a joke… Beautiful Butts is the actual name / slogan of this County. There weren’t too many beautiful butts at the party we played but there were plenty of catfish, barbecued wild boars, stuffed animal heads and rebel flags. To be honest, it was a little bit terrifying. We all stepped up to the plate though, playing some PM songs and throwing in an occasional “blues jam”. People seemed to really like it and most of all the guest of honor said very quietly that he enjoyed our playing at his party. I caught a fish, was fed well and brought a little joy into another person’s life… so far, it’s been a great day. We still had to get our asses to the Refuge in Macon about an hour away from this party we played. We packed up and booked it to the venue, meeting up with The Winter Sounds for our final show of tour. We both went out with a bang. Winter Sounds tore it up for the kids; they even had a guy propose to his girlfriend during one of their songs. There were a lot of youngsters that came out to see PM play and I think it was my best show of tour. It sucks to feel like we’re finally getting all the gears turning and working kinks out just in time to go home. I guess that’s just how it is though. You meet awesome people that you get along really well with, only to part ways weeks later. You have a kick ass show, finally working all the kinks out, and it’s time to go home. Regardless, we had an amazing time and met so many incredible people. Stay tuned for our next set of posts in September for the PM, Keegan DeWitt and Wakey Wakey Tour.
