Tampa, FL - Day 9 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
We ate gut-busting amounts of food before, on our way to and in Tampa, FL. We stayed at yet another Winter Sounds “home hook up”. We haven’t been to a lot of the places we’re playing on this tour but W.S. are looking out for us like squirrels to their nuts. Pizza started our day off… Decent Pizza. That was the name of the restaurant but it was an obvious understatement. With 20 inches of dough, cheese and tomato sauce in our guts we headed to Tampa Florida to play the New World Brewery… a venue familiar to PM. After a quick load in, we walked the downtown Tampa strip in search of nothing at all. What we found was far from that… strip clubs next to fancy restaurants, porn shops next to tattoo parlors. There were both extremes though. For every “naughty” store or club there was a man with a megaphone reading out of the bible. I thought it would be funny to hold hands with Andrew and cross the street right in front of one proselyte wearing an iPray t-shirt. He held true to form and didn’t make a stink about it. I visited the tattoo parlor where I got the chest piece that gave my mom a heart attack. Ben and I walked into a gay bookstore, hoping to find a fetching pair of swim trunks… no luck. We played to a great crowd tonight and all the bands gave great performances to show their gratitude for people’s enthusiasm. We’re now headed to Georgia tonight because we have an early show before playing the Refuge. We’re now pulling into a roach motel and Tom is driving our 15 passenger van like a Honda Civic so I have to go. Thanks Tampa!
