Columbus, GA - Day 6 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Columbus, GA – Day 6
Free hair cut? Sure, why not! Last night I met a very drunk very tiny man named Nicodemos. He informed me that he’s an “internationally known” hairdresser and that he also doubles as a “house mom” at a local strip club… Perfect! I’ll get to that part soon. So we got out of bed with time to spare and made our way to the town square. We hung out for hours at a local coffee shop / news stand. I played some checkers with a little kid and kicked his ass. After not being able to sit around playing sloppy checker players anymore, I went in search of pancakes. I couldn’t help but notice that these pancakes I found were in the shape of the sun. They had crispy edges and were delicious. I tried meeting up with Tom, Ben and Andrew only to run into Nicodemos from our show the night before. He said he would be willing to cut my hair and that after he smoked a bowl I should meet him back in the exact spot we were standing. Twenty minutes roll by and I found myself following Gnat (a nickname given because of his size, I’m sure) to his “salon”. The salon was a basement with one chair, a shampoo bowl and a TV that played The Last Waltz for the duration of the trim. He did a great job… he even left my rat-tail in tact, which I decided to cut off today. It was getting a little outrageous. We hung out in Carrollton all day before driving to Columbus. We hadn’t been to Columbus, SC for about a year and change but there were familiar faces in the crowd, which was great. The Winter Sounds have an awesome draw in the towns we’ve been playing and Columbus was no exception. The bar was smoky and reeked of Pabst Blue Ribbon. The soundman, who I pretty sure was milking a long standing love affair with meth, was outrageous. Jumping on stage in the middle of a song only to adjust a drum or guitar mic fractions of an inch, telling us to turn down until our amps were practiacally off. It was magical and I’ll never forget ole’ what’s his name :)
