Charleston, SC - Day 3 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Charleston, SC – Day 3
Guest blog from Jennifer Justus:
So this little adventure started for me when I met the band at their
show in Nashville. Their manager Nick introduced me to Josh.
Me: Nice to meet you. Thanks for letting me do this.
Josh: I hope you won’t be grossed out.
Me: I’ve got a brother.
And really, even after four days in a van, it hasn’t been gross at
all. I have marveled, though, at the amount of waiting that happens on
these tours. Set up. Wait to play. Play. Wait to leave. On Day 2, I
sat inside a dark, cave-like bar for 8 hours wondering if I’d grow
fangs and a thirst for human blood. But these guys are so awesome and
hilarious that they keep me scribbling in my notepad for a chapter I
can’t wait to write.
Yesterday was awesome, too, because the band had a show at a record
shop and then later at a bar called the Tin Roof. Much less waiting
around. And between shows, a cool lady named Robyn Kelafant took the
band to an Italian restaurant along with her daughter Katie and her
daughter’s friend Allison Milz. People have been so generous, and it’s
been amazing to watch. Hamburgers and fries from a church kitchen one
night…to gnocchi and plates of fresh mozzarella the next. The guys
keep saying the latter meal isn’t the norm though, so I guess it could
be leftover gnocchi tonight. Not that there’s anything wrong with
that, of course.
The show at Tin Roof last night was my favorite so far. I loved that
the guys from the record shop came out to support the band, and it’s
been fun getting to know the Winter Sounds and Alison Weiss and her
brother AJ. Afterwards we spent some quality time in the parking lot
of a Taco Bell with some warm PBR. It had been a long day, and I
remember asking everyone to rate their happiness on a scale of 1-10.
Andrew was a 8. Allison was a 7. Tom was a 6, and Josh was a 6. But
when Tom played some of Andrew’s music, everybody’s number shot up.
Funny how music can do that.
Well, I have more to say, and my notepad is almost full. I’m looking
forward to writing more about this cast of characters and their life
on road. But for that, I’m afraid we’ll have to wait for the book.
