Day 10 - Macon, GA PM / Winter Sounds Tour
The last time we “spoke” I mentioned that Tom was driving Patrick (our van) like a Honda Civic.  Well, he was driving that way into the motel we would stay in for about 3 hours.  After the show in Tampa we started the seven-hour drive to Macon, GA.  A buddy of ours from Atlanta has a close friend with Lou Gehrig’s disease and is in his final days.  Our friend asked us if we would be interested in...

Tampa, FL - Day 9 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
We ate gut-busting amounts of food before, on our way to and in Tampa, FL.  We stayed at yet another Winter Sounds “home hook up”.  We haven’t been to a lot of the places we’re playing on this tour but W.S. are looking out for us like squirrels to their nuts.  Pizza started our day off… Decent Pizza.  That was the name of the restaurant but it was an obvious understatement.  With 20 inches of...

Tallahassee, FL - Day 8 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Yesterday we woke up after a decent six hours of sleep in Pensacola, laughed about the events of the previous night, and hit the road towards Tallahassee. Where did we eat just before departure? You guessed it: Waffle House. The drive was windy and rainy. The rain was scattered but very hard and very often. I did the driving and we kicked off the journey with the Labyrinth soundtrack. Dance Magic...

Pensacola, FL - Day 7 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Lack of sleep is making it extremely difficult to recollect the day’s events.  I’m far too impatient to wait for anyone else to write this blog so I’m just going to do it myself.  We made it to Pensacola on $75 worth of gas, no sleep and thoughts of the beach.  As we pulled into town, it all seemed worthwhile…  the early wake up call from Ben’s alarm, the long drive… all worth it.  The beach...

Columbus, GA - Day 6 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Columbus, GA – Day 6 Free hair cut? Sure, why not!  Last night I met a very drunk very tiny man named Nicodemos.  He informed me that he’s an “internationally known” hairdresser and that he also doubles as a “house mom” at a local strip club…  Perfect!  I’ll get to that part soon.  So we got out of bed with time to spare and made our way to the town square.  We hung out for hours at a local coffee...

Carrollton, GA - Day 5 PM Winter Sounds Tour
What can I say? This trip has been very special for all of us. We woke up yesterday and left Charleston for a six hour drive to Carrolton, GA, a town to which we’ve never been. It was Jennifer Justus’s last day with us and I’m sure we were all a little sentimental about that, but we didn’t dwell. We were excited to still be together. She had taken a little time to herself the previous day to walk...

Charleston, SC - Day 4 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Charleston, SC – Day 4 It’s hard to complain about having a day off in Charleston, SC.  It’s a beautiful place that is home to a lot of beautiful people.  We stayed with two of those people over the past two days.  Now on our way to Carrolton, GA we can’t help but reflect on the hospitality we’ve been shown over the past two days…  The amazing Italian meal, the extremely well decorated and...

Charleston, SC - Day 3 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Charleston, SC – Day 3 Guest blog from Jennifer Justus: So this little adventure started for me when I met the band at their show in Nashville. Their manager Nick introduced me to Josh. Me: Nice to meet you. Thanks for letting me do this. Josh: I hope you won’t be grossed out. Me: I’ve got a brother. And really, even after four days in a van, it hasn’t been gross at all. I have...

Greenville, SC - Day 2 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Greenville, SC – Day 2 I woke up in a child’s bedroom in a mansion, or at least what I consider to be mansion. I’m sure some people more affluent than I would just think of it as a large house.  The whole place smelled of cinnamon and nutmeg, and low and behold coffee and an egg casserole awaited us.  This was a good start. Time to kill. Clean towels and several showers to choose from.  When...

Atlanta - Day 1 PM / Winter Sounds Tour
Atlanta, GA – Day 1 Every once and awhile things go our way.  After leaving Nashville in the pouring down rain for the first day of another tour, it was easy to think that “things” wouldn’t.  We are out for ten days with The Winter Sounds.  Five of those days will be spent with a cool lady named Jennifer Justice.  She’s writing a book about the “modern gypsy” and asked if she could observe PM on...
